“This program really conditions you for a work-routine and gives you insight into what it’ll be like going back to a job.”
Gloria Ikeda was working at a job in a position where she felt like she wasn’t really making the most of her abilities. After much frustration and a need for change, she realized she had to go back to school, expand her knowledge, and learn a whole new set of skills in order to get a new job.
“My goal was to make it to graduation and receive the certification that I had been working so long toward,” Gloria said.
With help and guidance from the local employment center, America’s Job Center of California, Monterey County, Gloria quickly enrolled to be a student in the Microsoft Office Professional Program in December of last year.
“I’ve never taken a class like this before,” said Gloria. “Of course, I was really nervous about going back to school again, but after my first week, I felt so comfortable.”
“I didn’t realize how applicable to real life what I was learning in this program would be,” she said. “The program really conditions you for a work-routine and gives you insight into what it’ll be like going back to a job.”
After much hard work and determination, Gloria graduated from the Microsoft Office Professional Program and received her Microsoft Office Certification in PowerPoint on May 1, 2019.
“I was so thankful to have a wonderful instructor like Jose,” she said. “He was so thorough in his teaching and was always lending a helping hand. He was patient with our questions and our work time and understood all of our concerns and comments.”
“I also made many good friends while going through the program that supported and helped me along the way.”
Looking Forward
Looking ahead, Gloria is more focused and determined than ever. She is open to working in any type of industry and is excited about finding the perfect fit. “I feel more qualified about re-entering the workforce and confident with my new skills. I’m so happy that I came to Alliance.”
